Man of the Match: J.C. Banks

Sep 28, 2017

Although the Jacksonville Armada FC played to a 0-0 draw with Indy Eleven on Wednesday, one player stood out for the home team.

J.C. Banks earned Man of the Match for his second time this year. He held his own in the midfield and also demonstrated an offensive drive. He won eight of his 14 duels and half of his tackles, while also taking two shots.

“We still got our chances, we just got to put them away,” said Banks. “We even had a decent amount of good blocks.”

The midfielder found his first opportunity of the night in the first half. He received a cross from Jack Blake in the 34th minute, dribbled around an Indy defender, and fired a shot over another defender to force a diving save from goalkeeper Jon Busch.

In the second half, Banks again found another chance and Jacksonville saw its best opportunity of the night. He received a through ball from Derek Gebhard and launched the ball around Busch and another Indy defender. His shot bounced off the woodwork though and Busch scooped up the rebound.

“It was just a little too wide. I wanted to tuck it in the corner. [Busch is] a good ‘keeper, I wanted to miss him,” said Banks.

Despite effort from both sides, neither was able to find the net before the final whistle and they were forced to split the points in Jacksonville.

The Armada FC now prepares for a Sunday matchup with the league-leading Miami FC – the final meeting with the team in the NASL Fall Season.

“We got to start picking up these points,” said Banks. “It’s so tight right now. Not a lot of teams get points off of Miami, so it will be crucial to get a couple points off of them.”

The match will kickoff at 6 p.m. at Riccardo Silva Stadium and fans in Jacksonville can catch the action on CW17.
