Man of the Match: Zach Steinberger

Max Lesser,

The Jacksonville Armada FC fought hard Wednesday night as they took on Puerto Rico FC at home. Though the match ended in a draw, it was the last-minute equalizer that gave Jacksonville their single match point. Although it was Derek Gebhard who made the tying goal, Zach Steinberger was ultimately name the Armada FC Man of the Match.

Throughout the evening, Steinberger consistently led the attack on Puerto Rico’s defense and created several close chances for the Armada.

“He may be overdoing it at times, but you can’t knock his effort,” said Coach Mark Lowry. “His work rate is tremendous and has great quality on the ball. He had a great game tonight.”

Starting the second half, the Armada FC came out ready and dominated possession of the ball. Steinberger himself created a great opportunity for a one-on-one, where he forced a critical save from Puerto Rico’s Trevor Spangenberg.

“They came out aggressive and pressed, which they didn’t do in the first game,” said Zach Steinberger. “But we finally got a rhythm towards the middle of the first half and dominated the rest of the game.”

Although the Armada FC failed to come away with three points, they’ll look to put that behind them as they hit the road to visit Indy Eleven on Saturday for the last game of the Spring Season. In the Armada’s previous match-up with Indy Eleven, they came away with four goals.

After a short break, the Armada FC will return to Hodges Stadium for the first game of the Fall Season against the San Francisco Deltas on July 30 at 6 p.m.
